Welcome to the New York City-1 Region

Welcome to the NYC-1 (Bronx, Manhattan, and Staten Island) Region of the Independent Sector’s Faculty Professional Development Project. New York University is the facilitating institution for the NYC-1 Region, coordinating regional communication and organization of the professional development activities, within the project’s framework proposed by cIcu and approved by NYSED. Our Region’s page, as well as the whole of, will contain resources for deans and faculty to help navigate the changes and opportunities of the Race to the Top reforms.

For example:

  1. We will share links to sites that provide lesson plan resources for new teachers seeking to integrate the Common Core Standards into their classrooms.
  2. We will post trainings on how to use the video technology necessary for classroom observations.
  3. Different perspectives on the reforms will be available, which we hope will encourage discussion on how to best meet challenges and take advantage of opportunities.
  4. The site will contain information on all upcoming meetings with our regional partners.
  5. And we will keep you updated on the professional development activities we have planned for deans and faculty. Our priority for this quarter is training deans and faculty on the edTPA process. We plan to have workshops on how to score observations, as well as on particular skills such as academic language. When we are comfortable with edTPA, we will turn our attention to the Common Core Standards.

I encourage you to visit all areas of, for valuable resources you can use and share with your colleagues and students. I also suggest you visit our Regional page for up-to-date information about what is happening in the NYC-1 Region.

Please feel free to contact Anna Hillary, NYC-1 Regional Coordinator ( with suggestions, comments and questions. We look forward to working with the institutions within and beyond our region in the coming year as we prepare for these changes.
